Job Summary

The City of Annapolis has established a paid student summer internship program to provide young adults between the ages of 17 and 24 work-experience with one of our City Departments. The program begins with an orientation and training module to help participants learn about the City, or functions, work practices, and standards.  Participants will then commence a practical work-based internship in a professional area of their choice, working under the direction of a City staff member.

Essential Job Functions

The City of Annapolis  Summer Young Adult Program is designed to offer an opportunity to participate in realistic and practical work experiences. This objective is achieved by providing a supervised work experience that will enhance expertise, proficiency, and problem solving abilities. It also enables a student to gain insights into municipal government for which they have demonstrated an interest for future employment.

Qualifications

In order to be eligible to participate in the program, the intern must:

  • Be a US citizen, lawful permanent resident alien, or non-citizen with proof of eligibility to work in the United States
  • Provide a work permit if under 18, which may be obtained through the high school counselor or the high school career staff
  • Applicants must be City resident, attend an Annapolis school, or have some other demonstrated connection to the City (such as family living or working in Annapolis).
  • Applicants must be able to commit fully to the program and attend each day
  • Applicants are required to complete a  50-100 word outline of why they wish to work with the City and what they hope to learn or gain from the experience. 
  • Particular consideration will be given to first-time applicants

Employment Conditions:
Mostly sedentary work.
