Security clearance: Reliability Clearance granted preferably or eligible (5+ years residing in Canada)
CGI is seeking a senior resource to design and engineer cloud-based ETL/ELT pipelines. This is a build-focused role (solution design plus implementation) is responsible for delivering pipelines as a product with release management, controlled promotion through Development, Test, and Production environments, and strong operational readiness.
The successful candidate will also provide training and knowledge transfer to an operational team to enable day-to-day usage and basic troubleshooting.
Solution Design and Engineering
. Design and implement robust, secure, and maintainable Azure Data Factory (ADF) pipelines for ingestion, orchestration, and transformation.
. Define architecture and engineering standards: parameterization, modular design, reusable components, error handling, retry patterns, audit/logging, and operational traceability.
. Engineer integrations and supporting components using:
. Azure Blob Storage (landing/staging patterns)
. Azure SQL (curated layers, control tables, stored procedures as required)
. Azure Functions (custom transformations, API integrations, pipeline utilities)
. Python and PowerShell (automation, tooling, and deployment/support scripts)
Productization, Release Management, and Environment Promotion
. Deliver pipelines as a product with defined versioning, release notes, promotion gates, and change control.
. Implement and support Dev/Test/Prod separation, including environment-specific configuration strategies (for example, parameters, variables, linked services, secure secrets handling).
. Support repeatable deployment practices and rollback planning aligned to program release governance.
Quality, Security, and Operational Readiness
. Build quality and reliability into the solution: validation steps, reconciliation checks where applicable, smoke testing, and production hardening.
. Implement monitoring and diagnostics: run status, failure notifications, meaningful error messages, and troubleshooting guidance.
. Apply security best practices (managed identity, RBAC/least privilege, secure secrets handling).
Delivery Execution
. Use Jira to manage delivery activities: backlog refinement, story/task breakdown, estimation, sprint execution, and status reporting.
. Maintain clear acceptance criteria and definition of done standards to support traceability and predictable releases.
Knowledge Transfer and Enablement
. Create runbooks, operational procedures, and how-to guides for monitoring, reruns, and basic troubleshooting.
. Deliver structured training sessions to the operations team, including escalation criteria and common failure patterns.
. 7+ years of experience in data integration / ETL engineering, including significant cloud delivery experience.
. Strong hands-on expertise with Azure Data Factory (pipeline design, triggers, parameterization, monitoring, troubleshooting).
. Experience with Azure Blob Storage and Azure SQL in production data pipeline implementations.
. Experience developing and operating Azure Functions.
. Strong scripting skills in Python and PowerShell for automation and support tooling.
. Demonstrated experience implementing multi-environment delivery (Dev/Test/Prod) with configuration management and controlled promotion.
. Experience delivering in an Agile environment using Jira (epics/stories/tasks, sprint planning, tracking, reporting).
. Strong documentation discipline and the ability to train/support operational teams.
. Familiarity with Azure security patterns and services (for example, Key Vault, private networking, managed identities).
. CI/CD experience for ADF and Azure components using Azure DevOps
. Infrastructure-as-Code experience (ARM templates, Bicep, Terraform) relevant to ADF and supporting services.
CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $90,000–$140,000. This role is an existing vacancy.
