Overview

Biosafety Support

The intern will assist with a variety of biosafety tasks that may evolve over the course of the summer based on program needs and intern interests. Responsibilities may include:

  • Assist with laboratory walkthroughs and inspections to verify biosafety practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Review and organize biosafety documentation, including standard operating procedures, protocols, and plans.
  • Support biosafety training preparation, updates, and resource development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Biosecurity Projects

  • Conduct biosecurity assessments, including evaluation of laboratory access controls.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify trends, gaps, or vulnerabilities in biosecurity practices.
  • Develop recommendations for improvement aligned with institutional and federal requirements.
  • Support standard operating procedure and training material development related to U.S. biosecurity policies.
  • Compile findings into a written report and present your recommendations to the EHS leadership team, Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), and other stakeholders as applicable. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Required Education & Physical Requirements: 

  • Completion of at least one year of college in biology, public health, or related field by internship start date.
  • Ability to walk through laboratories and multiple campus locations throughout the day. 
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment.
