Global Functions Technology (GFT) is part of RBC’s Technology and Operations division. GFT’s impact is far-reaching as we collaborate with partners from across the company to deliver innovative and transformative IT solutions. Our clients represent Risk, Finance, HR, CAO, Audit, Legal, Compliance, Financial Crime, Capital Markets, Personal and Commercial Banking and Wealth Management. We also lead the development of digital tools and platforms to enhance collaboration.


The opportunity available is working as a Senior Business Analyst within the RISE team on a multi-year Insurance transformation program, to enhance IFRS17 accounting results and improve the financial close process. RISE is the strategic SubLedger and Calculation Engine for RBC’s Insurance Business built on the Aptitude vendor products: Accounting Hub and Insurance Calculation Engine. RISE sources data from the Enterprise Data Lake (Finance & Insurance) and other golden source reference data applications and performs calculations to align with IFRS17 standards, providing accounting and subledger functions, including allocations, to support our business users with their monthly financial reporting, business review, and performance analysis. 

The Senior Business Analyst will be focused on analysis and delivery of insurance calculation, accounting rule, and subledger functional changes and updates and will contribute to enhancements and evolution of design. The selected candidate will work closely with clients in the Actuarial, Insurance Finance and Insurance IT teams to document business rules/mappings and define solutions that enhance RISE while minimizing impact and risk on existing application functionality.

What will you do?

  • Elicit, analyze and document business requirements, business rules and data sources.

  • Pro-actively communicate and collaborate with Insurance Finance and Actuarial teams to analyze functional requirements and deliver the appropriate documentation and explanations as needed.

  • Act as the first line of contact to interface with Finance and Actuarial business users on your specific changes and enhancements.

  • Work with project managers, developers, quality engineers and other business analysts, to ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget.

  • Ensure that testing, configuration/release management, deployment, and post implementation verification are completed in desired timelines.

Must-have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Computer Science or equivalent.

  • At least 5 years of experience in Financial Services with a focus on business transformation, system implementation, integration projects and cross-functional collaboration

  • Strong Business Analysis skills - elicitation, synthesis, evaluation and communication of results.

  • Strong understanding of Data Models, Experience data analysis and experience in Database systems like SQL, Excel, other analytical tools.

  • Hands-on experience with finance systems, such as product subledgers or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems

  • Knowledge of financial data flows, reporting, and reconciliation processes.

  • Familiarity with Agile Methodology and Agile terminology and tools such as JIRA

  • Strong communication skills – the ability to write clearly; know your audience; one on one verbal communications; the ability to give presentations and run a meeting is critical.

  • Experience using business analysis and requirements modeling tools, such as data flow diagrams, relationship data models and business process modelling.

  • Ability to understand the business requirements and translate it to technical requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills and leadership abilities to lead integrated teams in project activities.

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of Insurance line of business or actuarial concepts.

  • Previous experience in another Insurance company; risk or quantitative background.

  • Familiarity with IFRS17 standard.

  • Experience with Aptitude Insurance Calculation Engine and/or Aptitude Accounting Hub.

  • AI/Data analytics knowledge, including exposure to machine learning, automation or advanced analytics applications. 

  • Hands on experience supporting P&L process, valuation controls, and financial reporting. 

  • Demonstrate integrity and a constructive approach to challenges

  • Lead, coach and mentor others while providing constructive feedback

  • Familiar with scripting languages such as Python
