For more than 55 years, Family Health Centers of San Diego’s (FHCSD) mission has been to provide caring, affordable, high-quality health care and supportive services to everyone, with a special commitment to uninsured, low-income and medically underserved persons.
FHCSD is one of the top 10 largest federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) in the country. We operate more than 90 sites across San Diego County, including 29 primary care clinics, 23 behavioral health facilities, 10 physical rehabilitation clinics, nine dental clinics, five vision clinics, four outpatient substance use treatment programs, three mobile medical units, two mobile counseling centers, two urgent care centers, and a pharmacy.
Our staff provides care to over 227,000 patients each year, of whom 91% are low-income and 29% are uninsured. FHCSD provides care to all. Services include, but are not limited to adult care, chronic disease management, pediatrics, comprehensive women’s care including obstetrics, dental, vision, case management, physical rehabilitation, speech therapy for children, vaccinations, infectious diseases, behavioral health, substance use counseling and a host of specialty services including cardiology, podiatry, endocrinology, dermatology, among others. FHCSD also offers supportive services to those who are unsheltered and in need of intensive case management.
The breadth of our clinic locations, services and programs has grown over the last five decades, making us the largest community clinic provider of health care to the uninsured in the county and one of the top 10 largest community clinic organizations in the nation. We are also the largest health care safety-net provider, largest school-based health care provider and the largest mental health provider in the San Diego region.
Job Description Summary
Data Analysts within the Data Office at Family Health Centers of San Diego are dedicated to ensuring that data quality, data integrity, and data security align to support the many decision-making processes across the organization. By skillfully querying thousands of relational databases containing medical information, billing information, patient feedback, and more, these technical experts can monitor trends, illuminate patterns, and make predictions, ultimately shaping the future of healthcare delivered to our patients. Whether they are working to optimize operational efficiency, or to evaluate adherence to clinical quality guidelines, or to improve patient experiences, Data Analysts serve as the bridge between raw data and actionable insights. Their work ensures that the organization’s decisions are evidence-based and rooted in clear, data-driven logic. Data Analysts require a unique combination of technical skills from the fields of information technology, computer and data science, and healthcare. The Data Analyst II within the Data Office provides support for the decision-making processes of Family Health Centers of San Diego through the creation of standard and ad-hoc reports of organization data.
INTERMEDIATE (LEVEL 2): Professional who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action.
Job Roles
With minimal to no supervision, accurately estimates time to create new reports
Fine-tunes SQL Server queries
Creates reports using a variety of applications (e.g., Microsoft Excel, PowerBI, R) that require specific programming skills
Creates reports that are audience appropriate
Automates reports based on end-user needs and timelines through use of SSRS/Reporting Services or Scripts
Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or closely related field
Completion of courses in information systems, computer science, relational databases, data management, and/or statistics
Microsoft Certification MS SQL preferred
Or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the skills, knowledge and ability to perform the essential job duties, and which meets any required state or federal certification requirements
Traveling between sites and other locations is occasionally required. Must have a valid California driver’s license, an automobile, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance as required under California law, although limits of $100,000 are recommended. An acceptable driving record is also required. California law requires all drivers to obtain a valid California driver’s license within ten days of establishing residency. Reasonable accommodation may be provided on a case-by-case basis. Mileage and other reimbursement governed by policy.
Experience/Specialized skills (including Language)
4-8 years of experience using SQL Server
4-8 years of experience creating reports using a variety of applications (e.g., Microsoft Excel, PowerBI, R) that require specific programming skills
Experience with a web-based acquisition tool and ETL processes preferred
Intermediate knowledge of SQL Server to query databases and manipulate data
Intermediate knowledge of the organization’s relational database architecture
Intermediate knowledge of statistical principles and methods to describe data
Intermediate knowledge of healthcare data commonly created through the electronic health record, clinical management information system, and claims and billing process
Critical thinking; ability to approach problems logically and formulate solutions
Attention to detail; ability to approach tasks with a high level of accuracy
Advanced organizational skills; time-management skills and strong motivation to meet deadlines and achieve goals
Communication skills; ability to communicate requirements and results effectively to end-users through non-technical terms
