About the Role & Team
IDC is seeking a Data Analyst to join the Market & Industries team.  In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on several of IDC's vertical industry-focused Spending Guide data products, developing industry, company size, use case, and line of business forecasts across a broad range of technology markets. You will be responsible for conducting comprehensive industry sector research, mapping tech buyer uses cases, analyzing data, and providing actionable insights to support our clients' business strategies. Having familiarity with or expertise in the overall ICT, software, and cloud technology markets in North America and globally will be advantageous for this role. The ideal candidate has a proactive mindset, strong quantitative, data modelling, and analytical skills, as well as the ability to use automation tools to improve and streamline internal data processes. He or she should demonstrate the ability to interpret complex data, identify patterns, and draw meaningful insights by evaluating data from various sources, making sense of quantitative and qualitative information, and providing actionable recommendations. We’re looking for an innovative thinker with a passion for data and technology trends. Based in Toronto (Canada), this role offers flexibility with access to our vibrant IDC office and hybrid work.

 

What You’ll Do 

  • Analyze survey data and conduct secondary market research on selected industry sectors - financial services, manufacturing, telecommunications, energy, healthcare, and public sector - along with technology solutions and geography specific trends to build a deeper understanding of the key factors shaping overall markets and technology adoption patterns.
  • Develop industry sector forecasts and predictive models by utilizing statistical methods and tools to anticipate future trends and tech buyer behavior.
  • Monitor key macroeconomic indicators such as GDP, inflation rates, unemployment rates, interest rates, and exchange rates and assessing its potential impact on various industry sectors.
  • Maintain and update databases with relevant market data and research findings, ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of all program deliverables.
  • Assess the impact of fiscal and monetary policies on industry sectors and technology adoption trends.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations to communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop customized vendor and market models. Including the consulting team to support custom projects when required.

What You Bring

  • 2+ years of quantitative and qualitative market research or market intelligence experience, ideally in the technology industry or in consulting.
  • Bachelor's or MA/MSc degree or equivalent experience in Finance, Business, Economics, or STEM subjects (i.e., Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)., with a strong understanding of economic principles and their application to market analysis.
  • Critical and strategic thinking skills, with an understanding of the broader business implications of data findings.
  • Skilled in analyzing complex datasets and developing predictive models, with familiarity in statistical tools and methodologies. Proven experience in financial analysis and market modelling.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in data analysis and report preparation.
  • Strong English written and verbal communication skills to effectively present research findings.
  • Efficient in managing multiple research projects and meeting deadlines.
  • A strong team player with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint skills required.
  • Power BI skills, and ability to use Python or data analysis are an advantage.
  • Familiarity with the use of GenAI tools such as Microsoft Copilot, OpenAI, or Gemini in a business environment.
  • The position is hybrid, prevalently remote, working with colleagues across different regions, with occasional travel required.

Compensation Transparency

At IDC, we are committed to fair and equitable pay practices. Employees are compensated equitably for their work, aligned with their skills and experience. Salary and incentive structures are determined through a rigorous process that considers experience, education, certifications, role-specific requirements, internal equity, and verified Canada market data from an independent third-party partner.

The expected total annual compensation, depending on location and experience, is between 60,000 CAD – 71,000 CAD, inclusive of base salary and variable compensation.
