What You Will Be Doing

The Data Analyst supports enterprise-wide fundraising, stewardship, and engagement efforts by transforming data into actionable insights. This role partners closely with fundraising leadership, marketing, finance, and technology teams to deliver reliable reporting, advanced analysis, and high-quality data assets that inform strategic and operational decision-making.

Reporting to the Director – Development Services, the Data Analyst plays a critical role in strengthening data-driven culture across Stewardship and Development by building scalable reporting solutions, ensuring data integrity, and proactively identifying opportunities to improve performance, efficiency, and donor experience.

  • Analyze fundraising, donor, and engagement data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights and recommendations for leaders and frontline teams.
  • Support campaign performance analysis, donor segmentation, retention analysis, and pipeline health reporting.
  • Develop ad hoc and recurring analyses to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning.
  • Design, build, and maintain standard and ad hoc management, performance, and operational reports.
  • Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and data visualizations aligned to departmental KPIs.
  • Ensure reporting outputs are accurate, timely, well-documented, and user-friendly.
  • Partner with stakeholders to refine metrics definitions and reporting standards.
  • Write, optimize, and maintain SQL queries to extract, transform, and analyze data from the central data warehouse.
  • Identify new data sources and recommend enhancements to data models and datasets.
  • Collaborate with ITS and data engineering partners on data integration, validation, and automation.
  • Monitor and audit data for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance with governance standards.
  • Serve as a liaison with ITS to ensure adherence to institutional data security, privacy, and governance policies.
  • Document data definitions, reporting logic, and assumptions to promote transparency and consistency.
  • Build and deliver audience lists for campaigns, mailings, events, and digital initiatives.
  • Partner with fundraising, marketing, and stewardship teams to define audience criteria and success measures.
  • Support testing, segmentation, and performance measurement for multichannel campaigns.
  • Train and support staff in accessing reports, dashboards, and self-service analytics tools.
  • Respond to data requests and consult with stakeholders to clarify requirements and priorities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support enterprise initiatives and shared reporting needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the mission and objectives of the organization.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Three years of experience in data analysis, analytics, or a related discipline.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and relational databases.
  • Advanced proficiency in Power BI and Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, solve problems, and communicate insights effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate across teams.
  • Authorized to work in the US legally, without sponsorship.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience in nonprofit, higher education, or fundraising environments.
  • Experience with CRM and advancement systems (e.g., Salesforce, Campus Solutions).
  • Proficiency in Python or R for data manipulation and advanced analytics.
  • Experience with predictive modeling, segmentation, or machine learning techniques.
  • Experience building reports or dashboards within Salesforce or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and ETL processes.

  • Professional office environment utilizing standard office equipment.
  • Physical requirements include sitting, standing, typing, bending, and limited lifting (10–15 pounds).
  • Standard work schedule: Monday–Friday, 38.75 hours per week.
  • Employees within 50 miles of the Chicago campus are expected onsite three days per week.
  • Minimal travel is required; attendance at annual Stewardship and Development conferences is expected.
