Department Manager, Media Transfer Services (MTS)
This role will oversee the day-to-day operations and financial performance of the Photolab (Media Transfer Services Lab and MTS receiving room). This includes photo and video service production, team supervision, equipment maintenance, and developing a strong, customer-focused sales team in partnership with the Photo Counter and TECH departments.
Responsibilities include:
- Train, coach, and support the Photolab & MTS team
- Manage lab supplies and inventory to meet operational needs
- Monitor and maintain MTS equipment cleanliness and condition
- Oversee department financials to support profitability targets
- Ensure consistent use of required MTS checklists and documentation
- Maintain secure handling and tracking of all customer media
- Coordinate MTS shipping, receiving, and fulfillment processes
- Communicate effectively with store locations and Head Office (email/Teams)
- Provide regular turnaround time updates and operational support
- Share media, pricing, and process updates with store locations
- Perform basic media repairs (e.g., cassette transfers) as required
- Set sales and production goals; coach team to meet targets
- Manage labour within established payroll guidelines
- Maintain company standards for quality and customer service
- Support new equipment sourcing with Photolab Head Office
- Assist with day-to-day duties of Photo Lab and MTS Specialist roles
Qualifications for this position:
- Strong knowledge of all in-house production software and systems.
- Good understanding of the Photo Lab and MTS operational software and support websites.
- Proficient with OBS, Handbrake, PhotoShop, Acrobat, Davinci
- Knowledge of desktop PCs and Windows-based operating systems.
- Knowledge of digital and analogue photography, and analogue video capture media.
- Update current technical knowledge by attending seminars, product sessions or other methods that will help improve general skills and expertise.
