This position requires an employee to work between 20-25 hours per week during the school semesters, and 40 hours per week during summer, not to exceed 1,500 hours in a calendar year. Each semester, undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and graduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours.
INTERN GUIDELINES:
Students who have completed at least one year of college and are enrolled as a full-time student may apply. Must be enrolled full-time in a degree seeking program. A student’s intern position will end within three months after graduation.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Under the direction of the Supervisor-Electric T&D, Substations, assists in the construction and maintenance of de-energized overhead and underground equipment in electric substation facilities for the purpose of training and education.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Under the direction of and in conjunction with other employees, assists with substation equipment maintenance and operations, while learning the basic tools and practices used for electric substation maintenance and construction.
2. Performs routine or emergency repairs and maintenance on electric substation facilities and equipment as assigned.
3. Maintains a clean, safe work environment and prevents fire hazards and other hazards associated with de-energized electric substation activities. Works safely and encourages safe work by others according to CU’s policies and standards.
4. Performs other duties as required by management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
High school graduate or equivalent is required. Must be pursuing an associate’s degree in Electrical Distribution Systems or related field at an accredited technical college.
Licensing/Certification:
Must have a valid Missouri Class A Commercial Driver’s License or obtain one before employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to:
o Follow detailed instructions and make mature decisions with or without direct supervision.
o Work courteously with customers and coworkers.
o Show good judgment.
o Use tools and equipment associated with substation construction and maintenance.
o Communicate verbally and in writing.
o Follow standard CU safety procedures and practices.
o Effectively utilize a range of digital tools and platforms, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, enterprise software, artificial intelligence-enhanced applications, and self-service systems. Must possess a willingness and capacity to learn and adapt to emerging technologies, including mobile devices, cloud-based systems, and data-driven platforms relevant to utility operations.

Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements include: sitting, standing, grasping, bending, crouching, reaching, balancing, twisting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and climbing. Must be able to lift at least 75 lbs. Must be able and willing to climb structures, and to work at heights. Requires a large amount of walking and working from a standing position. Must be able to work within the rated capacity of the Utility’s aerial lifts, ladders, fall restraint devices, and/or other job-related equipment.
Working Conditions:
Duties are performed outdoors subject to changing weather conditions. May be exposed to high and low temperatures, air vibration (e.g., driving a tractor or truck, using a jackhammer), dirty environment, awkward or confining spaces, dangerous conditions (e.g., moving parts, electrical hazards), and considerable noise. May be required to set up proper work zone and work around traffic.
Safety Sensitive Position:
A safety-sensitive position involves the performance of duties which may have a direct and immediate impact on the safety of the public and other public employees. This is a safety sensitive position.
