Position Overview

The Engineering Manager – Radio Business Unit is responsible for leading the design, development, integration, testing, and lifecycle support of radio frequency (RF) communication products and systems. This role manages multidisciplinary engineering teams and drives technical execution, product innovation, customer satisfaction, and business growth. The Engineering Manager ensures products meet performance, quality, schedule, cost, and regulatory requirements while supporting strategic objectives for the Radio Business Unit.

Key Responsibilities

 

Business Unit Leadership

  • Lead and manage the Radio Engineering Business Unit, including strategic planning, staffing, budgeting, and execution.
  • Develop and maintain the Radio product technology roadmap aligned with company growth objectives.
  • Drive engineering priorities to support new product development, sustaining engineering, customer programs, and aftermarket support.
  • Partner with executive leadership to establish business objectives, investment priorities, and resource planning.
  • Monitor and report key performance indicators including engineering efficiency, schedule performance, product quality, and budget adherence.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement consistent with Canyon AeroConnect values.

 

Engineering Leadership

  • Lead and develop a team of RF, hardware, firmware, software, systems, and test engineers.
  • Establish engineering goals, priorities, and resource allocation aligned with business objectives.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, mentoring, coaching, and career development planning.

 

Product Development

  • Oversee the complete product lifecycle from concept through production and sustainment.
  • Drive system architecture, technical reviews, design verification, validation, and qualification activities.
  • Ensure adherence to engineering processes, design standards, and configuration management practices.
  • Manage technical risk identification, mitigation, and resolution.

 

Program Execution

  • Collaborate with Program Management to develop schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
  • Monitor project performance, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Support proposal development, technical volume preparation, and customer presentations.
  • Ensure successful execution of customer commitments and contractual requirements.

 

Technical Oversight

  • Provide leadership in:
    • RF communication systems
    • Software Defined Radios (SDR)
    • Tactical communications
    • Wireless networking technologies
    • Embedded systems
    • Signal processing
    • Antenna and RF subsystem integration
  • Guide trade studies and technology roadmaps for future product development.
  • Review and approve technical designs, analyses, and test results.

 

Quality and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations including:
    • FCC requirements
    • MIL-STD requirements
    • Environmental and EMI/EMC standards
    • Product safety requirements
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for technical issues.

 

Customer and Business Engagement

  • Serve as the primary engineering interface for customers, suppliers, and strategic partners.
  • Participate in customer meetings, design reviews, and field demonstrations.
  • Support business development activities by identifying technology opportunities and market trends.
  • Maintain awareness of competitor capabilities and emerging technologies.

 


Qualifications

 

  •  Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in aerospace, avionics, defense, communications, or related high-technology industries.
  • 5+ years of engineering leadership experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience leading complex new product development programs from concept through production.
  • Experience managing engineering budgets, staffing plans, and organizational performance.



Preferred

  • Strong understanding of airborne communication systems and avionics architectures.
  • Experience with embedded systems development.
  • Knowledge of RF communications systems, radio technologies, and signal processing.
  • Understanding of hardware, firmware, software, and systems integration.
  • Experience with aerospace development and certification processes.
  • Familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM) and engineering change management processes.
  • Ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs and make sound business decisions. Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.

  • Tasks involve light physical effort in sedentary to light work; may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects or materials (5 – 10 lbs)
  • Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
  • May require 10-20% travel time
