We are seeking a genetic counselor with interest and/or expertise in cardiovascular genetics to join our collaborative team within the Department of Medical Genetics and Genomics. This role will work closely with providers in the Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute, including being part of the Haslam-Bailey Family Section of Cardiovascular Genomics and Precision Medicine. In this role, you will counsel patients with personal or family histories suggestive of hereditary cardiovascular conditions, including aortic disease, arrhythmias, cardiomyopathies, congenital heart disease, and lipid disorders, through both in-person and virtual visits. You will guide patients and providers through genetic testing options, coordinate testing, interpret and communicate results, and contribute to workflow optimization projects that enhance genetic services. Alongside a team of 35+ genetic counselors, you will also support education for trainees and healthcare professionals and may participate in research related to medical genetics. A caregiver in this position works a hybrid schedule from 8:00 a.m. -- 5:00 p.m.

This role is primarily based at Main Campus, with responsibilities at both Main Campus and satellite locations, and includes flexible remote work options.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Perform genetic counseling functions in accordance with the Scope of Practice established by the American Board of Genetic Counseling.

  • Provide genetic counseling services to patients/families with a known or suspected genetic disorder. 

  • Coordinate genetic testing and disclose results to patients and/or providers. 

  • Complete documentation for patient care. 

  • Become familiar with the electronic medical record (EMR). 

  • Build time management skills to balance workload and responsibilities. 

  • Maintain compliance with IRB and department research standards. 

  • Demonstrate familiarity with current literature. 

  • Contribute to research projects, abstracts, or manuscripts. 

  • Become familiar with the department’s educational materials. 

  • Present at case conferences, journal clubs, or similar meetings. 

  • Supervise genetic counseling for students during rotations. 

  • Provide lectures and presentations to trainees and other medical professionals. 

  • Contribute to educational programs. 

  • Attend multidisciplinary care meetings, grand rounds and/or tumor board meetings.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited genetic counseling training program  

  • Certified or certification-eligible from American Board of Genetic Counseling 

  • Licensed or license-eligible from Ohio Medical Board required 

  • Must obtain ABGC certification within one year of date of hire 

  • Clinical rotations as part of genetic counseling training program 

  • Will consider applicants who have not yet completed their training

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Master's degree in genetic counseling

  • Board certification in genetic counseling

Personal Protective Equipment:
