IT Business Applications Summer Intern – 2026

 

Tri-State is an electric power utility providing electricity to rural electric cooperatives.  We have an IT Business Applications Summer Intern opportunity for 2026. Students who have successfully completed two (2) or more years of undergraduate study towards a Computer Science degree from an accredited college or university are encouraged to apply.  Seniors who will be graduating in December or are planning to attend graduate school in the Fall are also encouraged to apply. 

This summer position offers students hands on opportunity to gain hands-on experience in supporting critical IT and business initiatives within the electric utility industry. This role offers exposure to enterprise-level application management, process optimization, and modernization strategies.

 

Learning Opportunities

  • Gain insight into enterprise architecture and IT portfolio management.
  • Understand how technology supports operational efficiency in the electric utility industry.
  • Develop skills in process modeling, data analysis, and strategic planning.

 

Responsibilities: Intern will provide project assistance in Application profiling and decommissioning of applications.

 

  1. End-to-End Process Mapping

    • Develop comprehensive process views for core business functions within the electric utility sector.

    • Document workflows and identify integration points between business processes and IT systems.

    • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure accuracy and completeness of process documentation.

  2. IT Application Portfolio Analysis

    • Assist in building and maintaining an application inventory for the organization.

    • Support efforts in application rationalization by evaluating usage, functionality, and business value.

    • Contribute to modernization planning by identifying legacy applications and recommending potential upgrades or replacements.

  3. Data Gathering & Reporting

    • Collect and analyze data related to application performance, dependencies, and business alignment.

    • Prepare reports and visualizations to support decision-making for IT strategy and transformation.

 

Projects may include the following:

  • Application rationalization/Decommissioning

 

Job Requirements:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Interest in IT systems, business processes, and digital transformation.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively.

 

Duration and Work Schedule

  • The duration of the summer internship will be from about the end of May until the end of August.                                        

  • The work schedule includes Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., forty hours per week. There is a possibility of telecommuting with 40% of the work week.

 

Tri-State offers a competitive pay rate for this position.  The position is based at Tri-State’s Headquarters at 1100 W. 116th Avenue, Westminster, CO 80234.
