Job Description
Job Title: IT Network Administrator (Reports to District Technology Coordinator)
Contract Term: 12 months
Yearly Salary: Commensurate upon education and experience
Primary Purpose: The Network Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and security of Bennington Public Schools’ network and infrastructure systems across all district facilities. This includes supporting a large-scale K–12 environment with 1:1 student devices, cloud-based systems, and integrated instructional technologies.
This position ensures reliable, secure, and scalable network operations that support teaching, learning, and district operations, while collaborating closely with internal technology staff, ESU partners, and vendors.
Responsibilities:
- Network Infrastructure & Connectivity:
- Design, implement, and maintain district-wide network infrastructure
- Maintain core switching, routing, and WAN connectivity
- Plan for scalability and performance
- Wireless & 1:1 Environment Support:
- Manage wireless infrastructure supporting a 1:1 Chromebook environment
- Ensure reliable connectivity for all devices
- Security & Access Management:
- Support DUO MFA and authentication systems
- Manage firewall, VPN, and Content Keeper filtering
- Conduct vulnerability assessments
- Server & Infrastructure Systems:
- Maintain servers, backups, and core services (DNS/DHCP)
- Device Ecosystem:
- Support Chromebooks, Windows, and Mac devices
- Support & Collaboration:
- Provide Tier 2/3 support
- Collaborate with staff and vendors
- Project Management:
- Support infrastructure upgrades and improvements
- Additional Systems:
- Support VoIP, cameras, access control, and testing readiness
Education/Certification:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Networking, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in network or systems administration preferred
- Experience in K–12 or large enterprise environments strongly preferred
- Network+, Security+, or equivalent certifications (Preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong understanding of enterprise networking (LAN/WAN, VLANs, routing, switching, fiber)
- Experience managing wireless environments at scale
- Knowledge of network security practices, including MFA, filtering, and endpoint protection
- Familiarity with Google Workspace, Chromebooks, and SSO systems such as Clever
- Ability to troubleshoot across cloud, network, and endpoint layers
- Strong communication and customer service skills

- Hand tools and test instruments for electronic repairs.

- Software utilities.
Working Conditions:

- Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of a computer.
- Constant walking, standing, and/or climbing; constant stooping, bending, kneeling; works in confined spaces; ability to lift and carry fifty pounds without assistance.
- Work outside and inside; workaround machines and moving work around moving objects and vehicles; work on ladders and/or scaffolding; exposure to electrical shock, dampness, humidity, exposure to environments and airborne dust; slippery or uneven walking surfaces.
- Limited travel (less than 10%, all local)
- After-hours routine maintenance on district equipment.
- Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
