Columbia Basin College is seeking an IT Network & Telecommunications – Entry position to support CBC’s IT infrastructure by ensuring network and telecommunications systems meet Information Services standards and support student success. This position is responsible for planning, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting reliable, accessible network and telephone systems that serve faculty, staff, students, and the public. This position includes managing switches, network devices, wireless equipment, and specialized systems beyond general help desk support. This position reports to the Assistant Director for IT Infrastructure & Security.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points; perform network adds, moves, and changes to ensure reliable connectivity;
  • Monitor system health, performance, and uptime; perform routine maintenance, updates, and optimizations to maintain stable and secure network and wireless systems;
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network, wireless, and hardware issues, including advanced systems beyond general help desk support;
  • Configure and manage network security controls, including access control lists (ACLs), device segmentation, and firewall systems, to protect the College network;
  • Support and maintain critical campus systems such as DNS, DHCP, Palo Alto firewalls, and VMware vSphere;
  • In collaboration with Facilities, Faculty, and third-party vendors, install, configure, and support specialized and industrial network-connected building control systems and equipment, including CNC machines, PLCs, automotive diagnostic tools, and other specialty devices;
  • Manage telecommunication systems, including adding, removing, and modifying phone accounts; maintaining E911 functionality; tracing wiring; installing phones; and monitoring and troubleshooting phone system health;
  • Coordinate system maintenance and outage windows, and work with campus stakeholders and external vendors to address cabling, upgrades, and system maintenance needs;
  • Maintain accurate documentation of network systems, configurations, and procedures, and manage inventory and surplus of network and telecommunications equipment; and
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent;
  • Four (4) years of work experience in a computer related field;
  • Two (2) years of work experience in IT infrastructure support; and 
  • Have and able to maintain a valid US driver's license and clean driving history.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in IT, Computer Science or related field from a regionally accredited college or university;
  • Six (6) years of work experience in a computer related field with a minimum or four (4) years in network administration;
  • Two (2) or more years of experience working in higher education;
  • Bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish; and
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Terms of Employment

This position is a full-time classified staff position. This position is overtime eligible and the typical work hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., however, must be available to work a flexible schedule when prior notice is given by the College. This position is available immediately.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility, including traveling between buildings on campus. Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 30 pounds on a regular basis such as papers, files, boxes, equipment, computers, etc., and rarely requires moving materials weighing over 30 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, monitor, projector, calculator, printer, and standard office equipment.

 

Working Conditions

Work environment includes a usual office environment, classroom, lab, or other setting as appropriate. The noise level in the work area is typical of similar environments with personal interruptions and background noises.
