Peer Leader/Intern Support Staff - Summer 2026

 

Job Title: Peer Leader / Intern Support Staff
Location: Fitchburg Public Schools Elementary & Middle School Summer Program

Introduction:

Join our team as a Peer Leader/Intern Support Staff member and play a key role in supporting enriching afterschool and summer programs for elementary and middle school students. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills, gain hands-on experience in youth development, and work closely with program staff to create a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for students. Whether helping with academic support, leading recreational activities, or assisting with daily operations, you'll be an important part of a team dedicated to empowering young learners.

Qualifications:

 

  • Must be at least 14 years of age. Note: Ages 14-15 will only be placed with elementary school students;
  • Interest in being a positive role model for younger learners.;
  • Interest in making a difference in the Fitchburg community;
  • Organized, creative, flexible, and reliable;
  • Experience in leading activities with youth, or desire to learn.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

  • Assist with all program activities as needed;
  • Assist with classroom help and skill-building activities for students in the areas of math and ELA. (i.e. math games, reading, vocabulary, and writing activities);
  • Assist students in enrichment activities such as games, structured sports, crafts, etc;
  • Assist site coordinator with meal coverage, snack, recess, transition times, dismissal, and other duties assigned;
  • Work with the Intern Program Coordinator to plan hands-on lessons and activities that will be offered to students;
  • Participate in staff meetings and training at the request of the 21st Century Administrator, Summer Coordinator or Intern Program Coordinator (supervisor);
  • Participation in orientation and/or in-service professional development as required;
  • Other duties assigned.

 

Summer Hours: 8:00-2:30 p.m

All Staff Meeting, Training, and Planning: 

Wednesday, June 24, 2026, 4:00 - 6:30 pm, Location: Crocker

 

Summer Program Schedule:

Monday, July 6, 2026, to Thursday, July 30, 2026 (Mon – Thurs - 4-week program) 

 

Hours: 8:00-1:45 pm. Summer Program; 1:45-2:30 pm. Peer Leader/Intern Daily Meeting

 

Total Compensation: Not To Exceed (NTE) 119 hours; $17/hr; NTE: $2,023.00  This amount includes all program time and training time noted above - timesheet submission for payment bi-weekly.  This amount includes all program time as well as all prep and wrap-up required - timesheet submission for payment bi-weekly.

 

Funding Source: 21st CCLC Grants, City Funding

Applicants must commit to being present for the full duration of the program.
