Job Description:

Summary

The Social Work Intern will support the mission of workforce programs by providing holistic, student-centered services to participants facing barriers to employment and education. Under the supervision of a licensed clinical social worker, the intern will assist in assessing participant needs, connecting individuals to wraparound services, facilitating classroom training, and supporting case management activities. This role offers hands-on experience in outreach, crisis intervention, and advocacy, while contributing to the overall success and retention of program participants. The intern will collaborate with workforce staff, community partners, and training providers to promote equity, self-sufficiency, and long-term career advancement for underserved populations.

Compensation for the PT Intern- Social Work is $15.00 an hour.

Essential Functions

  • Participate in outreach and recruitment events, professionally representing ICC and Workforce Development programs.
  • Observe and/or participate in intake interviews to identify participant interests and potential barriers to program completion or employment.
  • Assist in developing individualized training and/or employment plans.
  • Support ongoing case management by tracking participant progress, referring to and documenting services, and maintaining confidential records.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate training workshops on topics such as stress management, trauma, and job readiness.
  • Develop curricula for training workshops.
  • Assist in crisis intervention, connecting participants to emergency resources when needed.
  • Provide individual employment, financial, and well-being coaching to participants.
  • Engage in reflective supervision and professional development.

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities satisfactorily.

  • Enrolled in the Social Work program at Illinois State University.
  • Assigned by the School of Social Work at Illinois State University to a practicum placement with ICC Workforce Development.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizing and prioritizing skills.

The position is not grant-funded.
