Evaluates adults, sets short- and long-term goals, determines and implements the most appropriate treatment to meet patient needs. Responsible for leading therapeutic activity groups and promotes leisure, social and vocational skills of adults 18 and above. Responsible for documentation including documenting patient goals evaluations, progress notes and discharge summaries. Assists with maintaining a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment. Effectively utilizes crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Completes assessments of all patients and identifies individual treatment goals
Treats assigned patients 1:1 or in group settings
Facilitates Group therapy
Enters charges in the computer daily
Participates in treatment team meetings as scheduled
Provides patient and family education when appropriate
Plans, coordinates, and evaluates community evening and weekend activities
Maintains knowledge of community resources
Supervises RT/AT students and interns
Assists with patient activities, escorts patients to outside appointments as necessary
Assists with restraints and seclusion procedures after completion of NCI training
Other duties as assigned
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Associate degree in Therapeutic Recreation required
Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field preferred
State license with the North Carolina Board of Recreational Therapy Licensing (NCBRTL) required
Basic Life Support certification required
1 year experience as Activities Therapist preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to problem solve and quickly assess and respond to situations appropriately
Basic knowledge of age specific considerations for the population served
General computer competency required
Position requires bending, prolonged standing, and walking
Ability to lift a minimum of 10 pounds
Possess visual and auditory acuity for observation
Manual dexterity for computer use and documentation
Position may involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
