The SAP S/4HANA Upgrade Project Manager will be responsible for planning and executing an upgrade to the latest SAP S/4HANA release (2025 target). The role ensures the project is delivered on time, within scope, and compliant with governance and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage detailed project plans, timelines, and resource allocations aligned with global program milestones.
- Maintain RAID logs (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies).
- Ensure compliance with SAP Activate methodology and internal governance frameworks.
- Oversee all phases of the upgrade lifecycle: preparation, sandbox testing, development, QA, and production cutover.
- Coordinate integrated testing (validation, regression, performance).
- Manage change control processes and ensure business continuity during and post-upgrade.
- Act as the primary liaison between IT, business process owners, SAP consultants, BASIS teams, and external vendors.
- Provide regular status updates and executive reporting to senior leadership.
- Identify and mitigate project risks proactively.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements (especially for industries like pharma or life sciences).
- Drive change management, training, and documentation readiness.
- Support user adoption and post-upgrade stabilization.
Qualifications and Skills
- 10+ years of experience in SAP Project Management.
- Proven track record in SAP S/4HANA upgrade projects (e.g., from 2020/2021 to 2023 or later).
- Experience in highly regulated environments (pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences preferred).
- Strong knowledge of SAP Activate methodology.
- Expertise in Supply Chain and Manufacturing workstreams.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Familiarity with multi-vendor coordination and global project governance.
- Certifications: PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent (SAP-specific certifications preferred).
- Preferred: experience with complex integrations and custom code remediation.
- Understanding of SAP system architecture and BASIS activities.
- Ability to lead large-scale testing and cutover activities.
