Overview

Adastra is in search of a Senior AWS Data Engineer to design, build, and deliver high‑quality, analytics‑ready data solutions. This role focuses on developing strong data foundations and enterprise‑grade BI capabilities that enable reliable insights and informed decision‑making. You will work closely with business and technical stakeholders to translate complex requirements into scalable, maintainable data and reporting solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, build, and maintain analytics-ready datasets
  • Develop and maintain enterprise-grade BI dashboards with advanced visualizations and calculated fields
  • Write, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries to support analytical and reporting needs
  • Ensure strong data foundations by validating data accuracy, completeness, and consistency prior to visualization
  • Analyze complex datasets to identify trends, anomalies, and data quality issues
  • Resolve underlying data issues in collaboration with upstream data contributors
  • Translate ambiguous business requirements into effective BI and data solutions
  • Partner with technical and non-technical stakeholders to align on requirements and outcomes
  • Apply creative problem-solving techniques to address tooling or platform limitations
  • Balance solution complexity with long-term maintainability and sustainability
  • Perform rigorous and proactive quality assurance to ensure high standards of delivery
  • Manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Use version control tools to support collaboration, code reviews, and reuse of data and BI assets

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Senior-level experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or BI engineering
  • Proven experience building enterprise-grade dashboards using BI tools such as QuickSight or equivalent
  • Strong proficiency writing and optimizing complex SQL queries
  • Solid understanding of data modeling and analytics-ready dataset design
  • Demonstrated experience working with complex, messy, or incomplete datasets
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to validate data accuracy and reliability
  • Deep understanding of data quality and data integrity concepts
  • Experience translating business requirements into technical data solutions
  • Excellent communication skills across both business and technical audiences
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in delivery-focused environments
  • Strong ownership mindset with a high attention to detail and quality
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple workstreams and deadlines

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience migrating or rebuilding dashboards across BI platforms
  • Experience working with multiple relational database technologies
  • Familiarity with data architecture concepts such as data flows and lineage
  • Exposure to data governance, privacy, or regulatory considerations
  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale or complex reporting environments
  • Background working on multiple concurrent analytics or data initiatives
