We're partnering with a global health‑tech scale‑up with roots in South Africa, delivering agentic AI systems into real production healthcare environments in the US. These production platforms are solving real operational challenges at scale — turning AI capability into practical healthcare outcomes.

We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong Python expertise and Rails exposure to build the systems that power these products behind the scenes.

This is a high-impact role for an engineer who enjoys solving hard backend problems, scaling modern services, and integrating AI into real workflows. If you care about architecture, performance, and meaningful product impact, this is a serious opportunity.

WHAT YOU WILL BE BUILDING

• Advanced Python backend services using modern async and production-ready patterns
• Integration with Ruby on Rails product systems and existing platforms
• Scalable APIs powering customer-facing products and AI workflows
• PostgreSQL optimisation, query performance, and data reliability systems
• Logging, monitoring, observability, and incident readiness practices
• GCP-native deployment pipelines, infrastructure scaling, and cloud operations
• Backend systems that operationalise AI into dependable real-world products

OUR REQUIRED EXPERTISE

• Deep Software engineering experience with advanced Python experience building production backend systems
• Strong understanding of async patterns, concurrency, and scalable architecture
• Exposure to Ruby on Rails for product integration and service interoperability
• Strong PostgreSQL skills including tuning and performance optimisation
• Experience designing APIs and integrating distributed systems
• Experience deploying and operating systems in GCP environments
• Strong engineering judgment with a focus on reliability and maintainability
• Master's Degree or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related technical field
