Senior Business Analyst

Reporting to the Director of Analytics and Logistics, the Senior Business Analyst will provide analytical and logistical support to all departments within the MBTA’s Engineering and Maintenance (E&M) department, which is responsible for maintaining the MBTA’s track, power, and signals infrastructure. The Senior Business Analyst will drive analytics projects to improve efficiency and inform decision-making in E&M operations. Typical analytics projects leverage multiple data sources to iteratively build dashboards and digital tools. Tools may include daily notifications and alerts, informative reports, key performance metric dashboards, and predictive forecasting. The Senior Business Analyst will drive the full lifecycle of tool development from user research through design, implementation, launch, and continuous improvement. This position will also include data engineering work, ad hoc analysis, and other data-related projects. Additionally, this position will work cross-functionally with other MBTA departments, including Procurement and Logistics, Contract Administration, Budget, Asset Management, and Capital Programs.

Supervision

• A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in business, finance, mathematics, economics, data engineering, or a related field
• Four (4) years of experience in a field requiring quantitative analysis
• Experiencing identifying business needs and designing technical solutions
• Experience leading the design and development of dashboards or other digital tools
• Effective communicator who can work with, influence, and train people from diverse backgrounds to adopt new tools
• Demonstrated ability to multitask and work independently to meet deadlines
• Experience working as a member of a cross-functional team
• Demonstrated knowledge of data analysis and data visualization tools (such as Tableau)
• Excellent collaboration and customer service skills

• Ability to commute to assigned work locations in the Boston, MA metro area, as required by the role.

• Ability to uphold the rights and interests of the MBTA while building and maintaining effective relationships with employees and co-workers.

• Ability to work all shifts and / or locations assigned, directed, or necessary for this position, including (for some transit / operations roles) up to twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week as necessary to accommodate severe weather conditions, emergencies, or any other circumstances that may potentially impact service or the safety of service.
• Intern / co-op staff must be enrolled full or part-time in an accredited educational program and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 for the entire duration of the internship / co-op. Additionally, interns / co-ops must have valid work authorization and U.S. Social Security Number prior to starting pre-employment screenings / pre-boarding, working in their positions, and throughout the duration of their program.
