ABOUT THE ROLE 
This role is designed for a data professional who uses spatial data as a strategic asset, and maps as tools for shaping the future. It offers a unique opportunity to influence how growth, infrastructure, and community data is leveraged, managed, and shared - moving the organization from descriptive mapping to predictive, insight driven decision making. The position delivers high impact geospatial and analytical leadership, advancing enterprise GIS and data driven initiatives across the department and with organizational and external partners

 

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING 

  • Collaborates/works with stakeholders and follows the corporate strategic leadership, planning and direction related to this function.  
  • Acts as a lead and subject matter expert to identify, collect, and analyze data sources to develop and advance initiatives and programs.
  • Contributes as a subject matter expert on joint data analytics projects and participates in collaborative efforts where applicable. 
  • Responsible for full solution development lifecyle including identifying and documenting user requirements, providing data insights to support user needs, development project workplans, and developing testing and implementing solutions 
  • Conducts data research and needs analysis and provides support in developing and implementing solutions and/or work plans for projects in collaboration with Department staff, local municipalities and other stakeholders. 
  • Provides research support and compiles data for management on emerging trends, best practices, current events, and municipal and provincial programs and policies that may have regional implications. 
  • Applies statistical methods and analytic models to data to identify insights of business value. 
  • Applies a user-centered development approach to build reports, dashboards and spatial analysis products employing best practices. 
  • Responds to routine and non-routine inquiries or requests for information and data products from outside agencies and partners, municipalities, vendors and/or members of the public, escalating issues were appropriate.

 

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR 

  • Successful completion of a University Degree in Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or related applied program or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience in data analysis, statistical and predictive modelling, applying a wide range of analytical techniques, including analyzing and modeling large data sets, exploratory data analysis or data mining processes.
  • Experience in compiling and managing large datasets, the use of statistical packages and demonstrated understanding of advanced data management techniques such as data preparation, analysis, data cleaning, extraction and interpretation.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to connect with a range of internal and external stakeholders while focusing on fostering collaborative work relationships.
