Urban Design and Planning Intern (Summer 2026)

Learning begins in the classroom but there’s no better place to gain real-world experience than with Stantec. Interns are an integral part of our teams, working to solve some of the world's most complex challenges. 

As an intern, you’ll work alongside our experienced practitioners and with our clients and communities. This hands-on experience will equip you with practical skills, build your network, and provide opportunities that set you up for success. 

Your Opportunity

As part of our Washington, DC studio, you will join a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment where you will contribute to real project work and develop practical skills through hands‑on involvement. Working closely with experienced professionals, you will support active project tasks, participate in design and coordination activities, and contribute to the development of high‑quality deliverables. This internship is designed to strengthen your technical abilities, broaden your understanding of professional practice, and help you build confidence as you prepare for the next steps in your academic and career journey.

Key Responsibilities

• Support development of urban design and campus studies including site analysis, land‑use diagrams, massing, and streetscape concepts.
• Produce mapping and graphic materials using GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, and 3D modeling tools.
• Assist with community engagement preparation.
• Contribute to planning documents, design narratives, and report graphics.
• Collaborate with national urban design and planning team

Qualifications

• Enrolled in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, or related field (junior or senior year).
• Strong graphic communication skills.
• Familiarity with programs such as Rhino, ArcGIS, & AutoCAD
• Clear communication and synthesis abilities.
