About the Role
Picture a workday where your expertise drives quality across unique, custom builds—not an assembly line. As an AWS Certified Welding Inspector, you’ll partner with skilled welders, fabricators, and design engineers to ensure every joint, process, and procedure aligns with code, safety, and performance expectations.
A Day in the Life
Starting your shift at 6:00 AM, you’ll align the day’s priorities with production leads, review work packages, and move from station to station verifying root, in-process, and final weld quality. You’ll interpret AWS D1.1 and related standards on the fly, validate WPS/PQRs, and coordinate NDT resources (PT, MT, RT, UT) to keep each project on track. Throughout, you’ll keep a sharp eye on safety and quality across the floor and at active job sites.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct visual weld inspections at root, in-process, and final stages
- Review and approve welding procedures (WPS/PQR)
- Interpret and apply codes/specifications, including AWS D1.1
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee NDT methods (PT, MT, RT, UT)
- Monitor production and job sites for compliance with quality and safety standards
Required Background
- Active AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
- 3+ years of CWI experience in manufacturing or fabrication environments
- Strong command of AWS D1.1 and related standards
- Fluency in reading blueprints, weld symbols, and engineering drawings
- Hands-on experience with NDT methods (PT, MT, RT, UT)
- Knowledge of welder qualification requirements
Preferred
- Additional NDT certifications in PT, MT, RT, or UT
- Degree in Welding Technology, Manufacturing, or a related discipline
Compensation & Schedule
- Starting pay: $33/hr (flexible for strong candidates)
- Hours: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, with occasional extended hours as needed
If you thrive in a collaborative, quality-first shop and prefer varied, custom projects over repetitive inspection, this role is built for you.
