Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Design and architect AWS ecommerce infrastructure — Create scalable, multi-tenant AWS architectures (using EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, RDS, Aurora, S3, CloudFront, Route 53) to support 600+ WordPress-based ecommerce sites with high availability and performance.
- Implement tiered “Good, Better, Best” shopping cart logic — Architect API-driven integration patterns that enable dynamic product tiering, upselling, and cross-selling workflows similar to travel/hotel booking engines, ensuring seamless UX across all client sites.
- Lead API integration strategy — Design and manage integrations between WordPress sites and external platforms (inventory management, payment gateways, CRM, ERP, shipping, and booking engines) using REST/GraphQL APIs, AWS API Gateway, and event-driven architectures (SQS, SNS, EventBridge).
- Optimize performance, security, and cost — Implement auto-scaling groups, load balancing, caching (ElastiCache, CloudFront), WAF, Shield, and encryption standards; conduct cost analysis and right-sizing to optimize AWS spend across hundreds of clients.
- Ensure CI/CD and DevOps excellence — Establish automated deployment pipelines (CodePipeline, CodeBuild, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins) for WordPress sites and APIs; implement infrastructure-as-code using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve system reliability — Deploy monitoring and alerting (CloudWatch, Datadog, X-Ray); lead incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives to maintain 99.9%+ uptime.
- Guide client-specific customization within a scalable framework — Balance standardized platform architecture with client-specific customizations, ensuring maintainability and repeatable deployment patterns across all the client portfolio.
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams — Partner with developers, product owners, and UX designers to translate business requirements into technical solutions that deliver intuitive, conversion-optimized ecommerce experiences.
- Mentor technical staff and set architectural standards — Provide leadership to cloud engineers and WordPress developers; define best practices, review architecture, and ensure adherence to AWS Well-Architected Framework principles.
- Crosstrain on Azure architecture – Gain proficiency in Azure cloud services (Azure Virtual Machines, Azure App Service, Azure SQL, Azure Active Directory, Azure Monitor, Azure Gen2 Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Data Bricks) to support potential multi-cloud strategies, disaster recovery planning, and hybrid cloud scenarios.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
- 5 years of experience in cloud architecture, with 3+ years specifically designing AWS ecommerce solutions at scale.
- AWS certifications preferred: AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional (or equivalent expertise); additional certifications in AWS DevOps, Security, or Database specialties preferred.
- Willingness and ability to cross-train on Microsoft Azure architecture and services; prior Azure experience or Azure Fundamentals certification (AZ-900) is a plus.
- Deep expertise in WordPress architecture at scale, including plugin management, headless WordPress patterns, and high-traffic site optimization.
- Proven track record designing API-first ecommerce platforms with tiered product models (Good, Better, Best) and integrations similar to travel/hotel booking engines (dynamic pricing, availability checks, multi-step checkout).
- Strong experience with serverless architectures, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), database design (RDS MySQL, Aurora), and CDN strategies for global performance.
- Familiarity with ecommerce payment systems (Stripe, PayPal, Authorize.net), PCI-DSS compliance, and secure data handling for multi-client environments.
