THE OPPORTUNITYWe have an opportunity for a Business Data Analyst to join our award-winning firm in the Vancouver office.
WHAT YOU’LL DOReporting to the Supervisor, Database Development and Administration, this role will bridge the gap between data-driven business strategy and quality assurance, ensuring that decisions are informed by robust analytics and that systems, products, and processes consistently meet the firms’ standards and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will be skilled in both business analysis and quality assurance, using data to drive insights and improvements, while also designing and executing testing protocols to validate the integrity and performance of deliverables.
This is a 16-month on-site contract opportunity to provide paternal leave coverage, offering the chance to make an immediate impact while gaining valuable experience within our team.
RESPONSIBILITIESBusiness Analysis:
Gather and document business requirements from stakeholders
Analyze complex datasets to uncover trends, patterns, and insights that inform business decisions
Work with our team to translate business requirements into specifications for the data team for creating reports and processes
Collaborate with product owners, developers, and other stakeholders to align data-driven strategies with business goals, sourcing information for new reports and processes to drive those strategies
Quality Assurance:
Develop and execute detailed quality assurance plans, test cases, and scripts
Implement automated testing processes where appropriate to ensure actual outcomes match expected outcomes
Perform manual and automated testing of our main corporate and data warehouse databases to ensure quality and accuracy
Perform manual and automated testing of systems, reports, and processes to ensure functional and performance standards are met
Identify, document, and track defects and issues, working closely with development teams for resolution
Verify that solutions meet user expectations, business requirements, and compliance standards
COMPETENCIES
Analysis – Assess quantitative and qualitative data, information, or situations to understand the most important details, identify patterns or meaning, and translate it into useful recommendations, decisions, or actions
Automation and Scripting – Envision, create, and deploy automated processes to increase efficiency, accuracy, and consistency in computational tasks
Customer Service – Determine needs, capture relevant information, apply internal policy or regulation, and escalate and prioritize the requests of customers to answer inquiries, fulfill transactions, or resolve issues
Data Governance – Establish policies, practices, processes, systems, and standards to ensure data integrity, quality, and compliance
Process Improvement and Documentation – Uncover, understand, document, optimize and communicate processes to make them more efficient, effective, and consistent
Quality Assurance and Testing – Assess, audit, evaluate and test products, applications, processes, or systems to ensure they meet quality standards and user requirements
Requirements Gathering – Discover, identify, document, and validate business needs to inform system or vendor selection, solution development, and/or project planning
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or a related field
3+ years of experience in a hybrid Business Analysis/Quality Assurance role or similar
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proficiency in SQL, Excel, and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, SQL Server Reporting Services)
Ability to write T-SQL queries to perform data analysis and data validation data is required
Experience with querying normalized and denormalized data models
Experience with QA tools and methodologies (e.g., JIRA, tSQLt)
Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights
Experience in a regulated industry or working with compliance frameworks
Knowledge of development methodologies (Agile, waterfall, etc.)
Knowledge of Extract-Transform-Load processes
Familiarity with data governance and quality management principles
Knowledge of the Investment industry would be an asset
Familiarity with Dataphile and Azure would be an asset
