Salary Range: $11.19 - $18.21
The City of Canton Water Department is seeking an individual for the position of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Intern. The intern is responsible for assisting staff and management in the development and maintenance of GIS projects and databases.
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and have completed or be enrolled in a recognized curriculum at an institution of higher education in Geographical Information Systems or a closely related program.
Applicants for this position should have the following skills and abilities:
Experience in GIS (Geographic Information Systems), cartographic design, and data management best practices.
Experience editing existing geodatabases, relational databases and shapefiles.
Knowledge of basic GPS techniques.
Ability to read and interpret basic civil engineering drawings.
Enter new map data from various sources including but not limited to AutoCAD drawings and hard copy maps.
Proficient with computer hardware and software including Microsoft Office, email, and internet browser programs.
Work in outdoor (collecting data) and indoor (office) environments.
Ability to work independently and accomplish assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
This is a non-union, temporary position, working 20-40 hours a week.
