LOCATION: Brooklyn Park, as well as at Metro-Based Community Organizations

STATUS: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

HOURS: 15-hours/week, 3 mornings a week. Duration is mid-June to mid-August.

 

POSITION SUMMARY: The Communications Intern partners with the Director of Communications, the Digital Production Specialist and the Director of Brand Creative to engage more community members in the fight to end hunger.

 

Interns will gain behind the scenes experience with nonprofits social media strategy, creative operations, and ERT-team, function work.  Interns may also design a project of their choosing to address program needs with guidance from the ERT Team.


DUTIES: 

  • Assist staff with implementation of the social media program at SHH. 
  • Write copy and interview team members and volunteers for blog posts. 
  • Efficiently answer and return customer phone calls, make reminder phone calls, demonstrating a high degree of customer service. Support direct home delivery service provided at Brooklyn Parkby making phone calls as needed in support of direct delivery service.
  • Attend weekly All ERT meetings. 
  • Option to design and present a self-directed project, addressing an identified program need; work with CSFP Team to refine.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Ability to adjust to changing priorities and to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Outstanding time-management and organizational skills.
  • Access to reliable transportation to visit in-person distribution sites 
  • Introductory knowledge of social media, communications writing and Canva

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Deeper knowledge of social media, communications writing and Canva

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OBJECTIVES: 

  • A deeper understanding of the food security of households in Minnesota.
  • Increase personal comfort and confidence with communications work and principles.
  • Learn to work independently while serving an integral role within a broader team.
  • Gain exposure to the inner workings of a successful non-profit, as well as to a large and bustling External Relations team.
