Engineering Intern – Louisiana Gulf Coast

Ducks Unlimited, Inc., the world’s leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization has an immediate opening for a multi-year Engineering Intern for DU’s Louisiana Gulf Coast Region. Stationed within the Lafayette, LA Field Office, this unique position is structured specifically for a current student with some time remaining in their degree. The role offers full-time hours during the summer and transitions into a flexible, part-time schedule during the school year, providing a direct pathway to graduation with extensive, hands-on engineering experience.

The successful applicant will join a highly motivated team of biologists and engineers to deliver coastal wetland, riparian and associated habitat restoration and enhancement projects. The successful applicant will: (1) assist Regional Engineer(s) with project designs and plan production utilizing AUTOCAD Civil 3D, (2) assist Engineering Technicians with data collection and construction management utilizing the responsible operation of GPS and traditional surveying equipment for topographic and/or bathymetric surveys. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science program in Civil, Coastal, or Agricultural Engineering with no more than two years (2) remaining until graduation.
  • Ability to work independently, in inclement weather, in remote work environments.
  • Ability to operate ATV and outboard boats.
  • Ability to travel overnight, with some extended travel.

WHAT WILL MAKE YOU STANDOUT:

  • Prior academic or internship experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Software.
  • Exposure to natural resources design, coastal restoration, or marine environment challenges.
  • Knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic engineering practices.
  • Practical, on-the-job experience with topographic surveying using RTK GPS.
  • Familiarity with heavy construction methods, marine earthwork, or materials testing.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with a self-motivated, goal-oriented mindset.
