SUMMARY OF POSITION
The intern will collaborate closely with the Flight Deck Leader in eliminating process waste, optimizing workflows, and improving operational efficiency.
In addition to team-based efforts, the role will include individual assignments designed to provide hands-on, real-world experience in applying Lean within an aerospace manufacturing environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Process Mapping: Assist in creating Value Stream Maps (VSM) and detailed process flowcharts to visualize material and information flows.
- Data Collection & Analysis: Conduct time studies, track cycle times, and analyze operational metrics such as production rate attainment and scrap rates.
- 5S Workplace Organization: Participate in and audit 5S initiatives (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) across shop floors or office spaces.
- Root Cause Analysis: Support problem-solving efforts using tools like the 5 Whys and Fishbone Diagrams to diagnose process inefficiencies.
- Kaizen Events: Assist in preparing, documenting, and tracking action items for rapid improvement (Kaizen) events.
- Standardized Work: Help draft and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to lock in process improvements
- Other job duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTIES
This position will not direct the work of any other employees.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Industrial engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain, Business Analytics, or a related field.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data analysis) and diagramming software like Microsoft Visio or Lucidchart.
- Lean Knowledge: Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement methodologies is highly preferred.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving skills, excellent communication, and the ability to work effectively with diverse, cross-functional teams.
