POSITION OVERVIEW
Morehouse Parish School District is seeking an energetic and student-centered Elementary Physical Education (PE) Teacher to support student wellness and whole-child development at Morehouse Elementary School. The ideal candidate will deliver standards-aligned instruction in physical education and health, fostering physical fitness, teamwork, and positive social-emotional development while promoting lifelong healthy habits for all students.

EMPLOYMENT DETAILS
Employment Type: Full-Time 9-Month Contract
Salary: In accordance with the MPSD Teacher Pay Scale and applicable state guidelines

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Deliver standards-aligned instruction based on Louisiana Health & Physical Education Standards
• Design engaging lessons to promote physical fitness and healthy lifestyles
• Teach sportsmanship, teamwork, and responsible decision-making
• Support social-emotional learning and student growth
• Ensure student safety and proper use of equipment
• Use assessments to monitor student performance
• Differentiate instruction for diverse learners
• Maintain a structured environment aligned with PBIS expectations
• Integrate technology and fitness tools
• Collaborate with staff through PLCs
• Ensure compliance with FERPA, IDEA, and Section 504
• Promote school-wide wellness initiatives

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
• Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate in Health & Physical Education or eligibility through LDOE
• Knowledge of Louisiana Health & Physical Education Standards
• Strong classroom management and supervision skills
• Knowledge of safety procedures and wellness education
• Ability to promote positive behavior and SEL development
• Proficiency with technology and data systems
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Commitment to student well-being and equity

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in Physical Education, Health, or related field
• 1–3 years of teaching experience at the elementary level (K–6 preferred)
• Certification or training in CPR, First Aid, and AED (or willingness to obtain)
• Experience implementing school-wide fitness or wellness programs
• Participation in PLCs, extracurricular activities, or wellness initiatives
• Possession of, or willingness to obtain, a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements, as required for student transportation and extracurricular activities, within a district – specified timeframe.
