Job Title: Retail Administration Intern
 Location: Baltimore, MD 
 Reports To: Branch Manager
 Department: Branch Administration 
 Type/Status: Internship / Non-Exempt (Seasonal – Summer) 20 hours per week
 

Position Overview:

The Retail Administration Intern plays a supportive role in advancing the mission of The Harbor Bank of Maryland through participation in a structured Teller Internship Program. This position is designed to provide hands-on exposure to retail banking operations, customer service, and community engagement. Under close supervision and in compliance with established policies and procedures, the Intern assists with routine teller transactions, customer engagement activities, and digital banking support while developing foundational banking, professional, and communication skills. The Intern will participate in formal training, ongoing coaching, and a project-based learning experience intended to prepare participants for future opportunities within retail banking.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists with routine teller transactions under supervision, including processing customer deposits and withdrawals, handling loan, credit card, and bill payments, and maintaining accuracy in all transactions while adhering to established cash control procedures.
  • Supports customer service activities by greeting and assisting customers in the lobby, answering basic questions regarding bank products and services, and directing customers to appropriate staff members as needed.
  • Assists customers with enrollment in online and mobile banking platforms, provides basic guidance on digital banking tools, and troubleshoots minor access or navigation issues.
  • Participates in branch outreach and engagement initiatives, including outbound calling to support appointment setting, customer follow-up, and community-focused campaigns.
  • Supports branch operations and administrative activities, including assisting with branch events, community outreach efforts, and bank-wide initiatives as assigned.
  • Completes a structured project-based assignment focused on customer experience, digital banking adoption, community engagement, or branch operations, culminating in a summary presentation to branch leadership.
  • Comply with all federal and state regulations and rules impacting this position, meet all risk and compliance obligations, including the completion of required training.
  • Participates in required training sessions, including bank orientation, teller systems, customer service standards, compliance procedures, and fraud awareness.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate professionally and courteously with customers, team members, and leadership.
  • Ability to learn and follow detailed procedures and instructions in a regulated environment.
  • Basic proficiency with computer systems and digital tools.
  •  Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Willingness to learn, receive feedback, and participate in coaching discussions

Qualifications:

Required:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent, or currently enrolled in high school, college, or university.
  • Interest in banking, finance, business, or customer service.
  • Ability to commit to the full duration of the internship program.

 

Preferred:

  • Coursework in business, finance, economics, or a related field.
  • Previous customer service, retail, or administrative experience.
