Position Summary:
The Senior Director, Network is responsible for building, strengthening, and growing the Points of Light Global Network, with a core focus on network organizational health, learning, community building, and capacity development. This role leads a comprehensive network strategy that equips affiliates with the tools, relationships, funding pathways, and shared programming needed to thrive and scale impact.
As the senior steward of affiliate relationships, the Senior Director owns the network-wide relationship management strategy, ensuring affiliates experience a coordinated, high-value partnership across Points of Light. The role works cross-functionally to align network priorities with convenings, corporate programs, and national strategy, while fostering a strong, connected global community.
The Points of Light Global Network is entering a critical phase of growth and evolution. Affiliates are navigating increasing community needs, funding complexity, and capacity strain, while also seeking deeper connection, shared learning, and stronger alignment with national strategy.
This role exists to ensure the network does not simply grow in size, but grows in strength, resilience, and cohesion. The Senior Director, Network provides the leadership needed to:
- Move from fragmented engagement to a coordinated relationship model,
- Shift from one-off programs to intentional, scalable capacity building,
- Ensure convenings are not just events, but strategic drivers of learning and network health, and
- Align corporate partnerships with affiliate realities and readiness.
Position Functions and Responsibilities Include:
Network Strategy, Growth & Health
- Lead the vision and strategy for the Global Network, ensuring strong affiliate organizational health, sustainability, and long-term impact.
- Drive network growth through recruitment, retention, and expansion strategies.
- Establish frameworks and shared standards that support affiliate excellence and consistency across the network.
Learning, Community & Capacity Building
- Design and implement a network-wide capacity-building ecosystem that promotes organizational health and consistent program implementation, including:
- Professional development and leadership learning,
- Peer learning communities and communities of practice, and
- Action groups, grants, turnkey programs, and shared service models.
- Continuously assess network needs and refine learning and support offerings based on data and feedback.
- Strengthen peer-to-peer collaboration and knowledge sharing across affiliates.
Convenings & Network Programming
- Partner with the Senior Vice President (SVP), Strategic Partnerships & Convenings to strategically shape and deliver network-wide programming.
- With the SVP, co-lead the strategic design and execution of:
- Global Gathering and
- Conference Network Gathering.
- Ensure convenings advance network learning goals, strengthen relationships, and drive measurable outcomes for affiliates.
Comprehensive Relationship Management & Corporate Alignment
- Own and execute the network-wide relationship management strategy, ensuring affiliates experience a coordinated, consistent, and high-quality partnership.
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to Corporate Programs team to ensure:
- Corporate partnerships align with network priorities and affiliate capacity,
- Affiliate relationships are managed holistically across teams, and
- Corporate engagement strengthens overall network health.
- Partner with Development and Corporate Programs to align national partnerships with local affiliate needs and readiness.
Affiliate Governance
- Provide strategic oversight of the Affiliate Assembly.
- Use insights and metrics to continuously improve network strategy and offerings.
Data Strategy, Performance Management & Network Insights
- Leverage Salesforce and related tools as primary systems for relationship management, network insights, and performance tracking, ensuring data informs the network strategy.
- Work with the Vice President, Program Evaluation and Impact, to define, monitor, and regularly review key performance indicators (KPIs) for the network, including:
- Affiliate engagement and organizational health,
- Learning and convenings participation and outcomes,
- Affiliate retention, growth, and sustainability indicators, and
- Organizational capacity and readiness measures.
- Champion a culture of learning, accountability, and continuous improvement, using data to test assumptions, evaluate impact, and refine network strategy over time.
Core Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills
- A ‘people person’ with excellent customer service skills, an ability to communicate from a place of values and purpose, and an ability to moderate conversations with our global community
- Excellent organizational skills; precision and strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize accordingly
- Deep international awareness, preferably including experience living and/or working in non-US environments
- Comfort working within ambiguity and a rapidly changing environment
- Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills with a focus on process improvement
Requirements:
- Minimum 6 years of relevant experience, including experience in network management or engagement
- Occasional travel overnight and/or internationally (estimated 15-20%)
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office. Knowledge of Salesforce, program management software (Asana), and data analytics/visualization tools are a plus
- Fluency in English and proficiency in additional languages a plus
- Ability to create a welcoming work environment for all
