Micro Systems Engineering, Inc. (MSEI) is a pioneer in developing innovative implantable medical technologies that improve, and often save, the lives of millions living with cardiovascular conditions and chronic neurologic pain. With over 45 years of expertise in designing and manufacturing active implantable devices, our success is built on a foundation of core values: innovation, quality, reliability, integrity, teamwork, and deep technical excellence. These principles drive our global reputation for trust and confidence among physicians and patients alike. We’re always seeking passionate engineers, scientists, technicians, professionals and students to help advance our mission and shape the future of medical technology.

Our 3–4 month paid internship program offers students meaningful, project-based work in a highly collaborative medical device environment. Interns are embedded in functional engineering or business teams, work alongside experienced mentors, and contribute to active development, research and manufacturing initiatives. This program is open to juniors, seniors, master’s and PhD students.

Internship Concentration
Develop software simulations of internal custom Integrated Circuits chips to support our implant software simulations.

Why Choose MSEI

  • Meaningful work that contributes to life saving medical technologies
  • Exposure to advanced engineering disciplines and cross-functional teams
  • Collaborative, mission-driven culture
  • Educational, networking and social events
  • Real-world experience and project work
  • Competitive pay

Primary Responsibilities

Responsibilities vary by assignment, but interns can expect to:

  • Design and test Integrated Circuit chip simulations.  The Integrated Circuit contains many internal “blocks” each with various functions. The intern will be involved in developing one or more of these “blocks”.
  • The software will used advanced coding techniques in the C# language. The intern will learn these.
  • Utilize AI to help with understanding IC block function, document the same and help with creating simulation unit test as well as performing various analysis on code quality.'

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s (junior or senior year), master’s, or PhD program in a field relevant to the internship, such as:
    • Biomedical Engineering
    • Computer Science / Software Engineering
    • Systems Engineering
  • Programming experience in C# or C/C++ (coursework, projects, or internships)
  • Familiarity with software engineering fundamentals (data structures, debugging, unit testing) and version control (e.g., Git)
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with cross-functional stakeholders (test, systems, software, and quality)
  • Interest in test automation, developer tools, and/or applied AI (e.g., LLMs, prompt engineering, or information extraction)
  • Passionate about advancing medical technology
  • Must have current U.S. work authorization
    • MSEI does not sponsor work authorization for internship roles
    • Applicants requiring future visa sponsorship (e.g., E, F-1, H-1, H-2, L, B, J, or TN) are not eligible

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain mobile within the workplace
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods and interact effectively with co-workers
